In January 1959, following prophetic leading, Pastor G. E. King and a small team of men and women traveled overland to Cameroon to plant the gospel. It was our first 'foreign’ mission (although that part of Cameroon was yet a part of Nigeria). Through that seed, a great network of churches with strong Christians has developed in Cameroon under the name TCG. In that year (1959) the Lord by prophecy named G.E. King an apostle – and his title was so changed.
The civil war years in Nigeria (1966 – 1969) disrupted our work in Eastern Nigeria where most of the branches were located. Many assemblies completely disappeared because of population migration and property destruction. When the war ended early 1970, our two leading pastors had survived, as did most of the ministers. Recovery was gradual because of poor economy base. But God in His faithfulness gave revival breakthroughs. By 1971, our Senior Pastor S.U. Umoh, (now known as Apostle S.U. Umoh) was busy again expanding the ministry in many new locations in the east just as Apostle G.E. King was doing from his Lagos base. Other evangelists and pastors were also labouring in the harvest field.
By 1978 a second foreign mission front was launched into Ghana, led by Apostle G.E. King. In 1979 Apostle King traveled to England on an exploratory visit. Old age and diminishing vigour of our two leaders slowed down development.
This closed the first generation of senior leaders of this church.
Between January 1981 and December 1984, the Lord led Apostle S. U. Umoh and G. E. King to raise up new leadership organs and office holders who would succeed them.
General Evangelist E.C. Jibuike was nominated in September 1984 and ordained on 30th December 1984 as Apostle.
Pastor Daniel Frank Umoh was already a close aide to Apostle S.U. Umoh.
Upon the passing away of the Spiritual Leader Apostle S.U. Umoh, on 1st April 1985 (three months later), a meeting of the Control Committee chose the following officers effective from 21st June 1985.
